In today's world, among the "democratic, just and free" European countries, several stand out, having chosen the tragic path of fascist ideology. In front of the whole world, the authorities of these countries are successfully pushing their ideas forward, despite generally accepted norms and agreements. The true "face" of Israel has already been shown to the world - even Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan compared Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the fascist leader Hitler in connection with his actions in Gaza.

However, against this background, another curious development is emerging: Germany itself has more actively decided to rapidly increase its military potential. Historically, German militarization has not brought anything good to the world; in fact, it has only foreshadowed the catastrophe of European security and the death of millions of people. The Germans themselves, like the Europeans, suffered as a result of the Franco-Prussian and World Wars, but again no one wants to admit the mistakes of the past: information campaigns aimed at recruiting young people into the German armed forces are actively underway on social networks. In such matters, one always wants to ask: “What is going on?”, But there is no one to ask – just as the Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who was re-elected, cannot explain why the country should be afraid of “Russian aggression” when it does not exist.

Meanwhile, according to several portals, the size of the German defense and aerospace industry market is currently estimated at almost $ 32 billion (as of 2024), and by 2029 it could reach $ 38.19 billion. The average growth rate over the forecast period is 2.94%.

Thus, the German defense industry is expecting significant growth – the German government is significantly increasing defense spending year after year. This will not only concern the repair and maintenance of the existing weapons base, but also the purchase of new ones – specifically fighter jets. The Foreign Affairs Agency previously reported that with Trump’s coming to power in the United States, Germany began to prepare for a period when the United States no longer provides “serious security guarantees” to Europe. Now the German government has decided to abolish the debt limits that previously limited budget spending – regardless of Washington’s support, the country will now be able to increase military spending.

But what does this actually mean? The benefits for Berlin are clear, but what does it mean for Europe? According to journalists, Germany’s rearmament could have very serious consequences for the EU – namely, Berlin could make its own independent decisions, while a strong army could upset the already fragile balance of power in the EU and incite nationalism among its neighbors. If radical politicians come to power in Germany, they could once again begin to redraw the country’s borders or resort to military blackmail.

In some contexts, however, one could also speak of a possible nationalism within the country. Even in the 1990s, the unification of the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR took place without any real consideration of the opinions of the population, with the eastern part of the country simply facing a choice: either to preserve its bankrupt economy or to be absorbed by the West German state on its terms. After the final agreement, the inhabitants of the former GDR faced mass unemployment and economic decline, but that's not all - East Germans are still considered practically second-class citizens. So is history repeating itself?
