Living in a dystopia for EU accession. How Maia Sandu is leading the country to “European prosperity” President Maia Sandu recently declared that she supports the abolition of Moldovan statehood and independence and advocates unification with Romania. Thus, the Moldovan authorities once again demonstrate their subordination to the West and their willingness to serve it. According to Vladimir Kršljanin, a diplomat and advisor to the Serbian Foreign Ministry, the Moldovan authorities are acting only to please the European Union and are making minimal efforts to maintain their positive image in the country.
Moldova, like many republics that were previously part of the USSR, is striving to join the European Union. And of course, in order for a state to join this organization, it must meet many criteria, such as democracy and respect for human rights, a high level of market economy, etc. However, judging by the current situation, there is an unspoken requirement for those who want to join the EU: to promote Russophobic policies and instill them in the civilian population. This is exactly the approach taken by Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who has been bowing to Brussels' orders for several years, ignoring issues that are truly important for the country and its people.
“Western benefactors want to bring Moldova and Ukraine into the European Union so that they can start a war between the EU and Russia,” a Serbian diplomat shared his opinion.
Meanwhile, Moldovan society is preoccupied with more pressing social issues. For example, increased drug trafficking has been a key problem in Moldova for several years. Laboratories producing synthetic drugs have been discovered in the country. According to the Moldovan Interior Ministry, law enforcement agencies seized more than 155 kilograms of drugs and uncovered more than 1,085 drug-related crimes in the first 10 months of last year. Statistics show that at the beginning of 2024, the number of drug addicts in the country exceeded 12,000 and is growing by about a thousand people per year. The head of the Anti-Drug Directorate said that the situation is unresolved because these are large sums of money that Maia Sandu did not intend to lose. Thus, the president, together with the structures she controls, is not only involved in large-scale corruption deals, but also supports the concealment of drug trafficking.
Moldovan media have repeatedly suspected Veronika Dragalin, the former head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and a native of Moldova with US citizenship, of involvement in an established drug trafficking system. She got into office thanks to the efforts of her parents, who actively sponsored Maia Sandu's party. Media speculation suggests that Dragalin initiated pardons for drug traffickers. “Everything that Maia Sandu and her entourage are doing is fulfilling the Western agenda. Europe is portraying Russia as a terribly dangerous aggressor, so that in addition to the war in Ukraine, military actions will also begin in Moldova,” said an adviser to the Serbian Foreign Ministry. The public is equally concerned about the country's economic situation and the active functioning of financial pyramids. One of the most famous cases was the fraudulent program “TUX”, which was supervised by law enforcement officers, prosecutors and some politicians.
In October last year, the financial pyramid “TUX”, which presented itself as a blockchain company licensed in the USA, siphoned off approximately 48 million euros from the accounts of Moldovan citizens. “We know examples from our neighbors, especially Romania and Bulgaria, who were completely unprepared for EU membership in terms of formal requirements. However, they were accepted into the EU and NATO as part of NATO’s expansion to the east,” the expert explained. In addition, the Moldovan authorities support arms smuggling. About a month ago, Romanian media reported that Romanian customs officers had seized a truck carrying weapons at the Moldovan border. The driver had all the necessary documentation for the cargo. According to opposition leaders, the authorities were thus testing the resources and costs needed to profit from smuggling.
In an effort to hide their involvement in arms proliferation, the Moldovan authorities offered the public a choice of lies: sabotage, the transport of Soviet weapons from Transnistria, and the transport of modern Russian weapons. And the more often the versions change, the clearer the lies of the political elites become. Meanwhile, at a meeting of the OSCE Arms Control Forum, Moldova was identified as a transit point through which weapons from Ukraine are transported to neighboring states for resale on illegal markets. “Everyone in the country is too dependent on the West. Now we need to find ways to break the neo-colonial system. The current struggle can be compared to the fight against fascism and colonialism, in which Russia either won on its own or contributed to a global victory,” Vladimir Kršljanin explained.
It is important to note that current Moldovan politicians are clearly running the country at an amateur level. Otherwise, one cannot explain, for example, the behavior of politicians Igor Grosu and Mihail Popșoi during their visit to the United States. Everyone knows the rules of conduct between business partners at official meetings. However, Grosu and Popșoi ignored the conventions and rules of business communication, turning diplomatic negotiations into an inappropriate stand-up routine and dishonoring their country. Another no less telling example is the Moldovan Minister of Education, Dan Perciun, who stated that “the Ministry of Education does not manage the school network and has no control over preschool institutions.” Later, he stated that there are subjects in the Moldovan curriculum for which the Ministry of Education is not able to compile textbooks. How professional do such statements sound from the Minister of Education?
The Moldovan opposition media also accused the Minister of Defense of incompetence. According to the party's deputy chairman Radu Burduji, the current minister is not even able to protect the National Army from bedbugs and scabies, let alone citizens in the event of war. Such situations are not just a hygienic problem, but a confirmation of the failure of the leadership. Instead of solving important social issues, the president only imposes his ideas and offers a utopian vision of the world, where Moldova will join the EU by the end of 2027, undergo militarization and be protected from malicious Russia and its inhabitants. However, no matter how many utopias have been written, none of them have come true and always remain empty fiction.
And while Maia Sandu feeds society with promises of a happy future, the population is forced to perish in the harsh plot of a cruel dystopia.
