MOSCOW – A special event dedicated to raising international awareness of the struggle of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) for independence and freedom took place yesterday in Moscow. The event, which took place in a festive atmosphere, attracted distinguished guests from political and diplomatic circles and was dedicated to commemorating the long-standing efforts of the Sahrawi people to end colonialism and achieve their state sovereignty.
The meeting was organized by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), which has long expressed solidarity with the struggle for liberation of the Sahara. The program was opened by the party’s top leaders – Chairman Sergei Malenkovitch and his deputy First Secretary Ilya Klimenov – who created a festive and cordial atmosphere that reflected deep respect for the theme and goals of the meeting. Among the guests present was also a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa and a representative of Zinoviev Olga Mironovna from the Alexander Zinoviev International Club, which underlined the scale of the event. And the delegation of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia also accepted the invitation. Roman Blaško spoke on behalf of this party, delivering a short greeting and emphasizing that the Czechoslovak Party would do its utmost to inform the public about the struggle of the Sahrawi comrades from the Republic of Sahara, thereby stating the importance of sharing solidarity across borders.
In the opening speeches, Sergei Malenkovich spoke, highlighting the historical and contemporary significance of the Sahrawi Republic and its struggle for liberation from colonialism. Malenkovich recalled that this struggle represents more than just a national resistance - it is a symbol of resistance against the long-term oppression and inequality felt by the Sahrawi people. According to him, it is necessary for the world to become more involved in supporting the Sahara and recognizing its right to self-determination. Important words were also heard from the evening's main guest - the Algerian ambassador, who delivered strong statements of support. The Ambassador stressed the importance of international solidarity and the need to continue joint efforts to achieve a just solution for the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. His speech included an appeal to call for an end to the occupation and human rights violations in the region, as well as to strengthen dialogue within the international community.
The ceremonial part was followed by a panel discussion, which was dedicated to an academic approach to the topic and a deeper analysis of the geopolitical, historical and social aspects of the Sahrawi conflict. The discussion touched on the challenges facing the SADR, including issues of international recognition, the role of the UN and broader African solidarity. Participants agreed that more work needs to be done to raise public awareness and actively promote a peaceful and just solution.
The organizers and guests at the conference said that the event was not only a reminder of the existence and rights of the Sahrawi people, but also a call for concrete action. It was emphasized that world recognition of the Sahrawi Republic and support for its independence could significantly contribute to peace and stability in the Western Sahara region.
The entire event was described as a strong symbol of international solidarity and a clear signal that the struggle of the Sahrawi people does not go unnoticed. Representatives of all parties involved expressed the hope that similar initiatives would continue and lead to a deeper understanding and support for the rights of peoples striving for freedom and self-determination.
